Inaugural post!

From Cook Islands ...

Allow me to introduce myself: My name is Andrew Harris, and I'm a recently married, 23-year-old freelance travel writer and magazine sub-editor, based in sometimes-sunny Melbourne, Australia.

At the moment, I'm writing for Postcards Victoria, Scoop Traveller Vic/Tas, and the ACP Magazines RV titles, for which I also sub-edit. I also sub-edit for Australian Motorcycle Trader and ATV Action, as well as for INTHEBLACK magazine.

I'm at the increasingly narrow tail-end of a Master of Arts (Editing and Communication) at the University of Melbourne, and I've been meaning to commit to a blog for some time -- intention counts for something, doesn't it?

I expect this blog to take in travel (my own work-related travels, and otherwise), music (mainly world music, but I'm experiencing a sort of metal renaissance at the moment), writing (I like to write short fiction and poetry, and I'm part of a hard-core (^m^) band of suburban writers, which is as yet properly named), as well as my own rantings on publishing and what I happen to be reading.

So I'll begin this by directing you to a gallery of photos from mine and Naava's honeymoon to the Cook Islands, all of which I've finally captioned. I've written some free-verse narrative poetry about the trip and I'm planning to write a newspaper or magazine travel piece at some point too.

From Cook Islands ...

Next week I'm going to the Victorian goldfields and the Grampians Ranges to do a few stories for Caravan World magazine, and in a few weeks I'm taking a big fat motorhome along the River Murray to Mildura (thanks to Kea Campers). I'm also planning a trip to Perth in November to cover the Red Bull Air Race -- there should be plenty to post about!

I am the first person to comment on your blog. Do I win a prize? Just saw your pics on picasa. Beautiful. Looks like you and naava found gan eden. Seeing them made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I am very happy for you both.

Carm and I went to the sulha last week. I met Yair Dalal there and chatted with him for a bit. He did a great performance that night with David Broza. I put a short clip of it up at www.youtube.com/ittay78
keep smiling

No prizes, but you have my enduring love. You did anyway, Ittay.

I would love to meet Yair and have a good chat.

Great clip too!

It was very much Gan Eden.
